To help clean energy stakeholders better navigate the fast-growing sector, The Green Launchpad has developed a framework that organizes the landscape of clean energy into clear sectors, systems, and technologies. By mapping how these elements are structured, the framework simplifies complexity, helping stakeholders understand the connections between them and identify where opportunities, policies, and workforce pathways intersect.

Clean energy careers span multiple sectors, segments, and systems, each playing a vital role in the green workforce. Our framework breaks it down into:

  • 4 Key Sectors – Energy Efficiency, Energy Storage, Renewable Energy, Clean Transportation

  • 2 Major Verticals – Electric Systems & Thermal Systems

How the Framework Can Be Useful?

Suppose you’re trying to understand where solar fits in the clean energy economy. By looking at the Framework, you can immediately see that solar appears in two places: Renewable Energy → Electric Systems (Solar PV) and Renewable Energy → Thermal Systems (Solar Thermal).

This shows you that solar has both electric and thermal applications, each tied to different technologies and markets. You can use this distinction to think about what training is needed, where business opportunities may lie, or how investment strategies might shift.

The Framework also helps you see how renewables connect to other sectors such as Energy Storage — for example, how Solar PV is often paired with lithium-ion batteries.

By using the Framework, you can better understand how technologies are grouped, where overlaps exist, and how different solutions complement one another.
