Introducing the Employer Workforce Toolkit: Energy Efficiency

The Employer Workforce Toolkit: Energy Efficiency (NYC Edition) was developed to help address one of the most persistent challenges facing New York City's energy efficiency sector: attracting, hiring, and retaining qualified talent for critical entry-level roles.

As demand for building decarbonization, weatherization, and energy efficiency projects continues to grow, employers face ongoing challenges related to candidate readiness, hiring consistency, workforce retention, and alignment between training programs and industry needs. While workforce development efforts continue to expand, employers often lack practical, role-specific tools that support more effective hiring and onboarding practices.

Developed by the NYC Energy Efficiency Employer-Led Workforce Coalition, co-led by the New York City Employment & Training Coalition (NYCETC) and facilitated by The Green Launchpad, this Toolkit was informed by more than 22 hours of employer convenings, working sessions, and direct industry engagement to ensure it reflects real hiring needs and day-to-day workplace expectations.

The toolkit focuses on three high-demand entry-level roles -- Junior Energy Auditor, Project Coordinator, and Junior Field Technician (HVAC & Weatherization) -- and provides practical guidance on talent attraction, hiring, onboarding, and career progression. Resources include sample job descriptions, resume screening templates, interview guides, early evaluation checklists, career pathway examples, hiring incentives, and workforce partner resources.

Designed for employers, workforce organizations, training providers, and industry partners, this resource helps create a shared understanding of workforce needs while supporting stronger talent pipelines for New York City's growing energy efficiency sector.
